The next group show I’m in is all about cats! They will have a portrait of my late feline, Milkshake, and a survey of 100 years of artists in NE Ohio who have done cat-related art. I also hear there will be real cats there to adopt!

Opens Friday, June 16th 5pm-9pm at the ArtNEO Museum inside 78th Street Studios, Cleveland, Ohio.

Milkshake

With over 100 years of cats by Cleveland area artists on display, ARTmeow explores the cat’s iconic role of artistic muse. As cat memes and animated gifs take over the internet, it is a good time to reflect on how our feline friends have impacted the history of art. ARTmeow not only looks at the past and present representations of cats in fine art, it also presents an interactive visitor driven display consisting of an Instagram slide show composed of photos tagged #ARTmeow.

I Curated Something That’s Actually Related to Art!

Everyone’s a curator these days. Right? Curator of content, of ideas, of a Pinterest board, or a music collection on your iPod.

Well for the first time since 2001 (Blood Moon group show in Hollywood at the now defunct HQ Gallery) I actually curated something in the proper sense of the word. I was asked by Cleveland West Art League to choose this year’s Six in Studio artists. All of the artists I selected I find do something relating to the word or notion of “organic”, or even biomorphic as it were. I didn’t think there would be a cohesive theme in who I picked — but there it is. Almost all women, too! That wasn’t intentional when I looked at the submissions of images but I’m glad it worked out that way.

This is a strange experience for me because I chose mostly installation art. But, being the point of the show is to create work in the gallery space with onlookers at times, and their fellow artists, I thought it could become interesting when the end result is revealed.

So come on out if you can on Friday, March 20th for the beginning reception for these artists at 78th Street Studios. The reveal reception is Friday, April 17th.

Speaking of curating an iPod, I will be “DJing” with mine, as well as probably doing my own art live like a wild animal in captivity for you to behold.

Oh February

This has been the year winter never came to Cleveland — or so it seems. I’m not complaining, no snow means I don’t dread getting out and about. I’ve mostly been doing work on some illustration projects and a few paintings for shows coming up at BAYArts and the G40 Summit. I went out to happy hour and got stared down by Lionel being sneaky….

Visited Legation Gallery here in Cleveland, and saw this show by Derek Gelvin and Jim Leach called, “Duplicities”…

Aside from that, had a few lovely studios visits, and am going to start reading a new book (and yes, that’s a Tamara de Lempicka coffee mug)…
